About Me
Violist and Violinist Patrick Monnius enjoys a varied musical career in solo, chamber, orchestral, folk, bluegrass, and country music. As a recent graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Patrick studied under the tutelage of Peter Slowik and participated in master classes with Jennifer Koh, the Brentano String Quartet, and Robert Vernon, among others. He participated in music festivals including Kent Blossom Music Festival, Credo Chamber Music Festival, Credo Australia, and the Global Musicians Workshop. He regularly plays with orchestras in the greater Nashville area, including the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Kentucky, the Evansville Philharmonic, the Jackson Symphony Orchestra and others.

An avid songwriter and folk musician, Patrick frequents co-writing sessions and participates on violin, vocals, guitar, and keyboards, in addition to viola. He was mentored by commercial musicians such as Buddy Spicher, Tammy Rogers-King, and Ryan Joseph, and has performed in concert alongside Aoife O’Donovan, Crystal Gayle, Hanneke Cassel, Sierra Hull, Terrence Blanchard, and Bruce Molsky.
As an active teacher and mentor, Patrick has maintained a private viola and violin studio in Northeast Ohio, and was a counselor and staff member during the Credo Australia program in 2015. He accepted his first collegiate teaching appointment at the age of 23, as the Adjunct Professor of Viola at Union University. Among his accolades, Patrick received the first place Donald Crossley Memorial Prize from the 2014 Ohio Viola Society Competition, and is the recipient of Baldwin Wallace Conservatory's Outstanding Senior Award and the David Statler Walker Award in Music Education from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. He has preformed in venues ranging from Carnegie Hall in New York, NY and Severance Hall in Cleveland, OH to The Station Inn in Nashville, TN and The Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, OH.

Patrick relocated to Nashville, TN in June 2018 and quickly established himself as a dependable session violist and violinist. He completed his Masters degree in Commercial Music with distinction at Belmont University Spring 2020.
